Back in Italy and Loving Fall Fashion… Jil Sander, Gucci, & Dior!

I’m back at the castle after a nearly 3-month stay in Michigan.  It’s been a hectic last couple of weeks, (of which I will spare you the boring details) but Elena and I made it home. Walking up the castle steps and smelling the scent of my childhood at my doorstep was nothing short of comforting after our long trip.

Upon my arrival, just as usual, work showed up in an endless string of emails filled with assignments that required endless hours to complete which was to be miraculously accomplished within an unreasonable amount of time.  So there went my first weekend of rest. However, being in the company of Elena, reuniting with my neighbors, picking grapes off of the vines in my back garden, and looking at the view of the hills brought peace to all of my physical and mental exhaustion.

I’m curious as to how the year will evolve. Being in Michigan without very much work and the limited company of my daughter (she spends most of the summer with her father) had given me some additional time to reflect about “life”. So I guess you could say that I had a chance to put some things in perspective as to what I wish to accomplish over the next few months. Needless to say, I’ve come up with additional crazy ideas about some of the things I might do to secure some sort of prosperous future.  Some say that “I’m a dreamer,” but some of my craziest ideas lead me to fulfilling my wildest dreams, for example, coming back here to Moncalieri and to Castelvecchio.

The smells and sounds of the outside garden change with the seasons, each distinct and special in its own way, each provoking a different memory or emotion. The view of the mountains from my back doorstep also changes, some days seeming so close you could touch them, others, completely invisible. The buzzing of the city below echoes ever so slightly bouncing off the hills making a slight humming sound. But it’s the birds and honeybees that are the most prevalent, which I adore. Life is simple here, but it’s the small yet significant details that make it fulfilling. Also, for Elena, sometimes she spends entire days climbing trees, and building “secret” houses, picking fruit, and making flower arrangements with her friends. It does get lonely though. We’re still new here and although we have made a few friends, my social circle is still extremely small  (while Elena’s is quite the opposite).  I miss my friends in Detroit, and I often think of how I’d like for them to visit me and share in these experiences. With time, I’m sure these wishes will also come true.

On another note, I’m really digging the fall fashions this year. There are some details this seasons that are right in tune with my personal style. The only challenge is keeping myself from spending money (oh, but it’s so deliciously tempting!). The prevalent details are the continued use of ankle length cigarette pants, belted, tight, and higher waistlines, and animal prints- an overall classic and chic aesthetic.

Most design houses such as Gucci and YSL used darker, more basic color schemes. They are using an overall black foundation accented with deep purples, wines, dark blues, and forest green.

Dior kicked it up a notch by using some vibrant and saturated colors such as red, royal purple, and fuchsia and mixed them with antique, neutral pinks, mink and light grays. Black was also present, of course.

Jill Sander, on the other hand, used a light pastel color palette, for the most part. Their 1950s style silhouettes were fresh looking in Barbie doll pink, lavender, cotton candy, and butter yellow. Their red and navy styles are also sure to be attention grabbers this fall since most people will be draped in more somber tones.

  • -AC,

For some reason it popped into my head earlier today to look you up. Really impressed with everything. Castles in Italy? Travel around the world? I totally envy you. I’m back in Detroit, working as a test drive engineer and far more happy than in Chicago. If you have the time, hit my up at the current email addy.

    -M
