“MIDNIGHT IN PARIS”~ RICH, BEAUTIFUL AND THOUGHT PROVOKING…

I’m now visiting Torino this week and I have the good fortune of staying at the “Galleria Subalpina” in Piazza Castello, which was the home of Italy’s king at one time. The architecture is incredibly rich. Each store and café is heavily adorned with beautiful ornamentation, and the “Palazzo Reale,” translated as the “Royal Palace” is lit up and ready for Christmas festivities. I wish I could find words to describe with more precision the beauty that I’m surrounded in, perhaps in a my next post, when I’m better prepared with photographic equipment, I’ll have some pictures to show off this gorgeous atmosphere.

While my stay here in the Galleria, I happend to see a movie which once again awakened my adoration for 20′s fashion.  A Wood Allen flick, Midnight in Paris, which I watched dubbed in Italian, of course, sparked an inner joy and excitement that I hadn’t felt in a while. Romantic and lighthearted, a sure anecdote for any dreary mood. I found myself smiling from ear to year for nearly 2 hours after the movie had ended. The perfect recreation of a time past was an element that had me at “hello,” as I’m a huge sucker for costuming, movies and books set in the past. The soundtrack was as equally as entertaining as the movie itself, a component that only enhanced the whole experience. A mixture of laughter and reflection… I have to congratulate Mr. Allen on a job well done.

Upon thinking about the dazzling images set before my eyes, I’m reminded of how sad I am to see elegance fade, as it is, in my mind, a key factor to being a woman. More and more do we see it disappear off of the streets, even in famously metropolitan cities such as Milan, fashion campaigns and in store windows. It is heart breaking to me. It almost feels inappropriate or pointless anymore to “dress up”. But I refuse to give in to this international fad going on, and I ask the same of women who are reading my blog. We need to compliment and  inspire one another, to be bold in life and in our own personal styles. I ask that we not give in to slow economy, because true style doesn’t come from money, (although it doesn’t hurt) but rather, it comes from imagination, open-mindedness, inner wealth and self-confidence.

So in light of the subject, I feel compelled to show off period costumes that inspire my daydreaming and my wardrobe:
